SURREY, B.C.: “Surrey families and business owners are living in fear while violent extortion attempts continue to escalate. Last night’s town hall confirmed what people in our community already know. This crisis has gone from a question of if to a question of when. Our city feels under siege, and people are exhausted, angry, and desperate for real action.
For months, the BC NDP told Surrey to stay calm while shootings, threats, and arson spread through our neighbourhoods. Families have every right to ask why it took this government so long to react when the warning signs were clear.
The public is also demanding transparency. Three individuals tied to extortion investigations were deported, yet the government refuses to release their names. This lack of openness only fuels fear. Our community does not owe secrecy to criminals who terrorize families and small businesses. Their names should be made public today.
People are tired of excuses. They want safety. They want accountability. And they want a government that treats this as the emergency it is. The NDP continues to talk in circles while Surrey residents live with daily anxiety, multiple shootings in their neighbourhoods, and businesses wonder if they will be the next target.
I stand with the people of Surrey who are demanding immediate and decisive action. That means naming deported offenders, strengthening police resources, improving coordination with CBSA, and protecting the South Asian community that this violent campaign has specifically targeted.
Surrey deserves more than delayed acknowledgements and photo ops. Surrey deserves real provincial leadership. I will keep fighting until families can feel safe in their homes, business owners can unlock their doors without fear, and every extortionist who threatens this community is brought to justice.”
