PEACHLAND, BC: News that 15 extortion terrorism suspects are seeking refugee protections to delay trials and avoid deportations is deeply alarming. Violent foreign criminals should not be allowed to take advantage of refugee protections.

Loopholes in our immigration system have been exploited for far too long. Weak borders threaten the safety of Canadians and undermine the tranquillity of our nation. These foreign criminals must be tried and deported without delay.

When foreign nationals are arrested on suspicion of extortion terrorism and other serious offences, the only priority must be to protect the safety of Canadians. Refugee protections and other immigration loopholes must never impede criminal investigations or allow dangerous offenders to roam free while hearings drag on.

British Columbians and Canadians deserve to know exactly what happens after police arrest a suspect who then files a refugee claim. Are suspects held in secure facilities, or are they allowed to roam free while claiming asylum? Does the claim delay criminal investigations or influence deportations? These are serious public safety concerns that require transparent answers from the relevant authorities.

The government must decide whose safety comes first: Canadians, or foreign criminals who travel here to kill, terrorise, and exploit our broken justice system.
