VANCOUVER, B.C. — Today, British Columbians learned that David Eby’s NDP have a new vehicle tax in the works, with CKNW radio host Jas Johal reporting a $150 hike:
“I’ve learned that prior to the election call, there were ongoing discussions between the province and TransLink on its structural funding problem. On the table: a vehicle levy of $100 to $150 per year, collected at ICBC insurance renewal.” (Jas Johal, X, Oct. 2, 2026)
This should be no surprise. Last year, David Eby confirmed such a plan is on the table:
Premier David Eby confirmed the vehicle levy is one of a suite of ideas the government will discuss. “We’re trying to leave as much on the table as we go.” (Business in Vancouver, May 15, 2025)
“David Eby promised to tax the rich. Instead, he’s raised taxes on the lowest-income British Columbians, and now is threatening to introduce a new tax on cars,” said Trevor Halford, Conservative Party of BC candidate for Surrey-White Rock. “David Eby cannot be trusted. He will make life more expensive.”
With British Columbians heading to the polls, David Eby must come clean on his plan. A re-elected Eby NDP Government means life only becomes more expensive for British Columbians.
