VANCOUVER, B.C. – Lorne Doerkson, Leader of the Conservative Party of BC, released the following statement on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools in Canada.

We think of the Indigenous children who attended residential schools, and of the families and communities affected by them.

We also think of the parents and grandparents who were affected.

Today is a day for reflection, and we encourage everyone to take part in events in their communities.

As we move forward, reconciliation means learning from the past and taking constructive steps for the future. As Leader, I am committed to doing my part, including on economic reconciliation, and I am proud to have multiple strong Indigenous voices and leaders running as candidates.

Today I also think of my parents and the values they taught me: hard work, humility, honesty, and kindness. I will bring those values to my work with Indigenous communities.

Together, we can work toward a future built on partnership and cooperation for all British Columbians.
