“Once again, White Rock and Surrey families are being told their local hospital is unable to safely deliver babies. The Province can no longer pretend this is a temporary, isolated incident. Since December 2025, the Peace Arch maternity ward has been closed on average every other week.”

WHITE ROCK, BC: Conservatives are demanding the NDP to take responsibility after Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock was placed on maternity diversion for the fifth time since December 2025, once again forcing expectant mothers to take last-minute detours and make emergency plans to give birth outside their community.
The latest diversion is from Thursday, Jan. 22 at 8:00AM to Monday, Jan. 26 at 8:00AM.
MLA for Surrey–White Rock and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia Trevor Halford said, “Once again, White Rock and Surrey families are being told their local hospital is unable to safely deliver babies. The Province can no longer pretend this is a temporary, isolated incident. Since December 2025, the Peace Arch maternity ward has been closed on average every other week. This is a pattern of neglect stemming from years of NDP mismanagement of healthcare staffing.”
Conservative Health Critic and MLA for North Island Anna Kindy said the recurring situation reflects a system-wide failure to recruit and retain frontline medical staff:
“The NDP continue to offer excuses instead of solutions. After months of diversions, Fraser Health can only point to a single physician hire expected sometime in spring.
“British Columbians deserve reliable access to maternity care, not confusion at one of the most important moments of their lives. Expecting mothers should never have to worry about last-minute emergency plans about where they will give birth.”
