Maple Ridge Shooting Shows B.C.’s Gang Violence Crisis Worsening Under NDP Watch

MAPLE RIDGE, BC: Lawrence Mok, BC Conservative MLA for Maple Ridge East, says the latest targeted shooting in Maple Ridge is another grim reminder that gang violence continues to escalate in British Columbia under Premier David Eby’s failed public safety policies.

In the early hours of August 13, a man in his mid-20s was found shot to death in a vehicle at a Petro-Canada/7-Eleven lot at 240 Street and Dewdney Trunk Road. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed the killing occurred near 246 Street and 124th Avenue before the vehicle came to rest at the gas station.

“This is not an isolated event — it’s part of a disturbing trend of targeted shootings, gang activity, and organized crime operating openly in our communities,” said Mok. “British Columbians are tired of hearing the same empty promises while dangerous criminals treat our streets as their battlegrounds.”

The Conservative MLAs are calling for:

  • Tougher enforcement measures to dismantle organized crime networks;
  • The designation of violent gangs as terrorist organizations to allow asset seizures, financial disruption, and enhanced investigative powers;
  • An end to catch-and-release bail policies that put violent repeat offenders back on the streets.

“Under David Eby, criminals know they can act with near impunity,” said Mok. “We need a government that is proactive, not reactive, when it comes to protecting our communities from organized crime.”
