“No one fighting for their life should also have to fight a bureaucratic system that is supposed to help them.”
-Kristina Loewen, MLA for Kelowna-Centre

Kelowna, B.C. — Kelowna-Centre MLA Kristina Loewen has written to BC Transplant Executive Director Eric Lun and copied Minister of Health Josie Osborne, calling for immediate intervention and a systemic review of the liver transplant waitlist process after serious concerns raised by Kelowna resident Lyndsay Richholt, who has waited nearly eleven months for a life-saving liver transplant.

In her letter, Loewen describes Richholt’s case as “a clear example of a system that is not functioning as it should.” She notes that despite Richholt’s compliance with every medical and procedural requirement, she continues to face communication breakdowns, procedural delays, and a lack of transparency.

“Ms. Richholt’s case highlights deeply troubling gaps in how BC Transplant communicates with patients and manages critical, time-sensitive cases,” said Loewen. “No one fighting for their life should also have to fight a bureaucratic system that is supposed to help them. It is unacceptable that after nearly a year, there has been no clear timeline, no updates, and no accountability.”

Loewen’s letter requests a review of both the communication and administrative processes within BC Transplant and calls for immediate attention to Richholt’s case to ensure it is handled with the urgency and compassion it demands.

“British Columbians deserve a healthcare system that is transparent, responsive, and fair,” said Loewen. “Lyndsay’s courage and persistence in the face of such hardship are remarkable. It is time for BC Transplant and the Ministry of Health to act, not with more words, but with decisive and compassionate leadership.”
