Ward Stamer has deep roots in the North Thompson, where he and his wife Carleen raised their family in Barriere. A father and grandfather, Ward spent approximately 45 years working in British Columbia’s forest industry, experience that continues to shape his understanding of forestry, resource communities and rural B.C.
Community and Public Service
Ward’s involvement in public service began long before provincial politics. He served with the Barriere Improvement District and was elected to Barriere’s first municipal council following incorporation in 2007. Ward was elected Mayor of Barriere in 2018 and served in that role until his election as MLA for Kamloops–North Thompson in 2024.
Community service has also been an important part of Ward’s life. In 2025, he received a Lifetime Membership Award recognizing 36 years with the Barriere Lions Club, where he served in several leadership roles.
Delivering in the Legislature
One of Ward’s major accomplishments during his first term was Bill M217, the Dashboard Cameras in Commercial Vehicles Act. Ward had advocated for stronger commercial-vehicle safety measures before becoming an MLA and carried that work into the Legislature.
The bill passed third reading on May 25, 2026 and received Royal Assent on May 28, making it provincial law. Its requirements will come into force by regulation.
Commitment to Kamloops–North Thompson
Ward continues to focus on the issues he hears about across the riding, including health care, forestry and resource jobs, affordability, housing, transportation, public safety and responsible government.
From Kamloops and Chase to Sun Peaks, Barriere, Clearwater and communities throughout the North Thompson, Ward is seeking re-election to continue representing the people of Kamloops–North Thompson in Victoria.
