“These are real people. Families. Workers. Neighbours. And the NDP government treat them like collateral damage.”
– Misty Van Popta, MLA for Langley-Walnut Grove, Critic for Infrastructure and Construction
VANCOUVER, B.C.: “The Broadway Subway is two years behind schedule, hundreds of millions over budget — and now the NDP’s newest surprise is a four-month full closure of Broadway.
Small independent businesses along Broadway have already endured years of delays. Many have taken second jobs, reduced staff, or made enormous personal sacrifices just to keep their doors open.
The project’s budget has ballooned from $2.827 billion to $2.954 billion, and completion has been pushed from 2025 to 2027. Instead of seeing increased traffic from a completed SkyTrain line, businesses and residents are now facing two more years of disruption — including this devastating shutdown.
This closure will also create major headaches for commuters, workers, and anyone who relies on Broadway as a key east–west route. And the NDP still won’t provide clear timelines, updated plans, or meaningful support for those impacted.
These are real people. Families. Workers. Neighbours. And the NDP government treat them like collateral damage. British Columbians deserve better than missed deadlines, blown budgets, and a government that refuses to take responsibility.”
