VICTORIA, BC: MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano and Critic for Education Lynne Block issued the following statement regarding the BC Teachers’ Federation’s decision to pass a resolution at its Annual General Meeting in Vancouver endorsing the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel:
“The recent decision by the BC Teachers’ Federation to endorse BDS is deeply concerning, not just politically, but most importantly, for what it means inside our classrooms.
Schools must be places where students learn accurate history, critical thinking, and core academic skills – not where ideology creates division or fear. Students and parents deserve neutral, fact-based education so they can make their own informed decisions.
This move risks creating an exclusionary and unsafe environment, particularly for Jewish students and families who are already facing rising antisemitism. Every child, regardless of faith or background, deserves not only to feel safe, but to be safe, respected, and included at school.
We urge the Education Minister, Lisa Beare, to take action to ensure our schools are places of safety, balance, and respect for all.”
