John McEwen is the Conservative Party fo BC Candidate for Port Moody-Burquitlam
John has called Anmore home for more than 20 years and has spent much of that time serving the community and the broader region. John served 18 years on Anmore Council, including 12 years as Mayor. When he was first elected 18 years ago, the Village faced an infrastructure deficit of approximately $10 million and had limited revenue sources. John worked with Council and staff to develop a long-term financial plan focused on responsible fiscal management and building sustainable reserves. Today, Anmore’s infrastructure has been brought up to municipal standards and the Village has more than $10 million in reserve.
John has also held significant regional leadership positions. For the past four years, he has been elected by his peers on the Metro Vancouver Board to serve as Vice Chair. For the past eight years, he has chaired the Metro Vancouver Parks Committee, where he helped oversee an unprecedented expansion of the regional parks land inventory. He has also served as a member of the Mayor’s Council on TransLink and is a Trustee with the Municipal Finance Authority of British Columbia.
John created and owned two small businesses, both of which he subsequently sold. This experience has given him a practical understanding of business, investment, employment and the challenges facing small-business owners.
After 18 years in municipal government, John has decided to step forward at the provincial level because he believes British Columbia needs practical solutions, responsible fiscal management and leadership grounded in real-world experience.
John is running to bring his municipal, regional and business experience to the Legislature and to be a strong, independent voice for the residents of Port Moody-Burquitlam.
