Stan Sipos is the Conservative Party of BC candidate for Oak Bay-Gordon Head.
Stan came to Canada as a refugee. Born in communist Yugoslavia, he lost his mother before his second birthday and spent three years in an Italian refugee camp with his father before Canada welcomed them. His early Canadian years were spent working on the family’s mink ranch in northern Alberta. His family cherished the freedom and opportunity Canada offered.
At 16, Stan left home with $7.50 and a red CCM bicycle and went to work as a construction labourer. He spent the next decade in the trades, including time in the Carpenters Union, before building a career of more than 50 years in business and real estate development. He has delivered dozens of major projects across British Columbia.
Stan remains active in award-winning developments built on a simple principle: a project has to earn community support, respect its surroundings, meet residents’ needs and make fiscal sense. He is proudest of the Customs House heritage revitalization in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. He also co-founded Cielo Carbon Solutions, a carbon capture company that reduces emissions at the source while protecting the strength of Canada’s natural gas industry.
A lifelong drag racer, Stan has won races across North America as the underdog against far better-funded teams and was inducted into the inaugural class of the Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame. Stan lives in Oak Bay with his wife, Dr. Anna Sylwestrowicz, and their combined family of six.
