Doerkson vows no new taxes on British Columbians throughout the entirety of his government after a decade of nonstop NDP tax raises on working families.
SURREY, B.C. — Lorne Doerkson, leader of the Conservative Party of BC pledged today that his new government will never raise taxes on British Columbians. After nearly a decade of the NDP, families across the province have been squeezed as the NDP takes more and more out of their pockets to fund a government that has spent more and gotten less. British Columbians deserve a break.
“Our party is unified and ready to deliver the change British Columbians deserve. That starts with ending the NDP’s endless tax grabs on working families,” said Lorne Doerkson, Leader of the Conservative Party of BC. “Instead of watching their hard-earned money disappear into government spending that hasn’t made their lives any better, under my government, there will be no new taxes.”
Since the NDP came into power a decade ago, British Columbians have been hit with one tax grab after another. After campaigning on “taxing the rich,” David Eby and the NDP raised the lowest income tax rate from 5.06% to 5.60%, hurting every worker in our province. They also announced an expansion of the 7 percent PST and eliminated several PST exemptions, then paused the expansion on the eve of an election, leaving the policy on the books and ready to return. And just last week, the answer from David Eby and the NDP to the housing affordability crisis was to hike yet another tax. Brackets are also frozen through 2030 – a quiet tax hike that hits British Columbians every time their pay keeps up with inflation.
Despite the government taxing and spending more than ever recorded, British Columbians don’t even have the functioning public services they need. Emergency Rooms have rotating closures, people have never waited longer to see a doctor, the construction of hospitals and schools are delayed, our young people are leaving because they can’t afford to live in our beautiful province, and crime is out of control in our communities.
“British Columbians have never paid more in tax, but nine years of the NDP spending more and getting less means our province has never been further behind,” said Doerkson. “It’s time British Columbia had a government that respects taxpayers, fights to keep more money in their pockets, fixes the economic mess David Eby and the NDP have made, and stands strong for the change British Columbians deserve.”
