VANCOUVER, B.C. – Lorne Doerkson, Leader of the Conservative Party of BC, released the following statement after the Government of Canada designated the Pacific Link Pipeline a project of national interest:

“The world needs Canadian energy, and British Columbia needs an economic boost. For that reason, I’m delighted that Prime Minister Carney has committed to building the Pacific Link Pipeline. At a time of economic crisis, helping Canada get our products to new markets to diversify trade is essential for Team Canada.

“This nation-building project will lead to billions of dollars of investment, thousands of jobs, and revenues that build schools and hospitals. While wars in the Middle East and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine destabilize global energy supplies, British Columbia is in a unique position to support our allies in Europe and Asia, while also becoming energy self-sufficient.

“My government will treat energy as an urgent mission, and we will support projects with a strong business case for our communities alongside strong protections for our beautiful environment. As soon as I become Premier, I will ask for a trilateral working group between Alberta and Ottawa to ensure all such concerns are properly addressed.

“British Columbia can become an energy superpower, with the most responsibly produced resources in the world. That’s why the Conservative Party of BC have developed a BC Energy Superpower Plan that will get our energy to market, doubling Natural Gas production by 2032, and tripling it by 2035. Only the Conservative Party of BC can deliver this strong leadership for serious times.”
