NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Conservative Party of BC will build more long-term-care beds faster and give seniors waiting for care a real choice in where they receive it.

After nine years of the NDP, 7,200 British Columbians are waiting for a long-term-care bed. The NDP piled so many unnecessary rules onto care-home designs that some proposed beds reached $1.8 million each. Then, having driven up the costs, David Eby used Budget 2026 to defer seven long-term-care projects across the province.

“Seniors on the North Shore and across this province are waiting far too long for the care they need, and their families are left worried sick about where their loved ones will go,” said Lynne Block, candidate for North Vancouver-Seymour. “David Eby made these beds too expensive to build and then shelved them. Our seniors deserve better, and a Conservative government will get them built.”

If elected Premier, Lorne Doerkson will work with care providers, residents, families and builders to cut unnecessary design rules, protect safety and quality of care, and deliver affordable, high-quality facilities faster.

Seniors waiting for a bed will also receive portable public funding, giving them and their families a real choice among qualified providers, including non-government options with strong performance safeguards.

“No senior should be stuck on a waitlist because of NDP mismanagement,” said Block. “Lorne Doerkson has a plan to build the beds our seniors need and put families back in control of their loved ones’ care.”
