VANCOUVER, B.C. – David Eby’s opportunism was on full display again today. After leaving our health care system in chaos and doubling wait times for diagnostic care, Eby’s reckless campaign today included admitting the ways in which he’s broken B.C.’s health care system, and pretending like he’s the only one who can fix it.

- Right now in the province, people can wait 10 weeks for surgeries, but they can also wait 50 weeks or more for some surgeries, and that is totally unacceptable.” BC NDP Campaign event, October 6, 2026.
Facts on David Eby’s Reckless Wait-time Record:
- Since 2022, over 10 people have died each day while waiting for health care in this province.
- Wait times from a referral to specialist treatment are now over 32 weeks, the longest recorded in British Columbia since measurement began in 1993 and almost a month longer than the national average.
- For those requiring surgery or diagnostic care such as MRIs and CT scans, wait times have doubled under the NDP, with British Columbians waiting nearly a year for these medical procedures.
- In 2025 alone, one in three patients waited longer than the clinical benchmark for surgery.
- Data from the NDP government reveals that nearly 17,000 British Columbians died while sitting on surgical and diagnostic waitlists between 2022 and 2026.
Facts on David Eby’s Chaotic ER Closures:
- Over a three-year span, there was an emergency room closed in BC nearly every single day.
- In Interior Health alone, FOI data showed 207 individual ER closures and 3,675 hours of closure between April 2023 and April 2025.
- In 2024, Interior Health reportedly experienced more than 120 temporary closures.
