David Eby and the BC NDP have been in power for nine years, and they’ve failed to build a replacement for the aging Massey Tunnel. With the now $5 billion wasted on delaying the 2017 shovel ready Massey Bridge, taxpayers in the region could have a new Surrey hospital and close to 10 secondary schools.

  • In 2017, the BC NDP cancelled a 10-lane bridge that was ready for construction with a budget of $3.5 billion slated for completion in 2022.
  • After a four-year delay, the BC NDP announced it would build a smaller, eight lane replacement tunnel for $4.15 billion – $650 million more.
  • After a further five-year delay, the BC NDP announced the project was on track with a budget of $4.3 billion in Budget 2026.
  • Then, in June 2026, the NDP fired their own design and early works consortium because they could not agree on terms.
  • Recently, a secret leaked memo from David Eby’s office in December 2025 revealed that the NDP knew the cost had more than doubled to $8.5 billion. Budget 2026 hid that from the public, keeping the project at $4.3 billion (read the memo here).
  • It was only in July 2026, when the NDP revealed the new $8.5 billion budget to the public.

That’s Eby and the BC NDP’s record: $5 billion more, two fewer lanes, and a decade of lost time, with commuters, businesses, and taxpayers paying the price for the NDP’s incompetence.
