After nine years of David Eby’s NDP, British Columbia’s healthcare system has been devastated. British Columbians drive hours to see that their emergency rooms have closed, while over a million people still do not have a family doctor.
- As of April 2026, 1,259,425 British Columbians had no family doctor, according to NDP Minister Josie Osborne. This is the case, even though the NDP promised in their 2024 platform that everyone who wanted a family doctor would have one by the end of 2025.
- Worst still, approximately 1.2 million British Columbians are waiting to see a specialist. Under the NDP, the median wait from a family doctor referral to treatment grew from 29.5 weeks in 2024 to 32.2 weeks in 2025.
- Across our province, emergency rooms have been forced to close their doors. Emergency departments suffered 8,645 hours of unplanned closures in 2024, followed by another 7,262 hours in 2025.
- Since January 2023, the emergency room at Port Hardy Hospital has closed every night at 5:00 p.m. because of staff shortages. The damage has become so severe that in July 2024, Merritt Mayor Mike Goetz sent Premier Eby a bill for $103,831.87 to cover what 24 ER closures had cost his city.
- In 2024-25, 141,961 British Columbians left emergency departments without being seen, an 86% increase from 76,157 in 2018-19. Most tragically, 16,791 British Columbians have died on NDP waitlists since 2022-23.
- Behind every one of these numbers is a British Columbian who waited too long, drove too far or never got care at all.
After nine years, the NDP have had their chance. On October 24, it’s time for strong leadership with the Conservative Party of British Columbia.
