Conservative Party of BC releases its ambitious plan to turn BC Into the energy superpower the world needs after a lost NDP decade, doubling LNG production by 2032, tripling by 2035
Vancouver, BC – Conservative Party of BC Leader, Lorne Doerkson, published his comprehensive plan today to make British Columbia the energy superpower the world needs.
After a lost decade under the NDP, the BC Energy Superpower Plan will get British Columbia building again, doubling the province’s LNG production by 2032 and tripling it by 2035. This will create good-paying jobs, generating new revenue for the services British Columbians rely on, and will help our allies secure the reliable energy they need during a global energy crisis and beyond.
“The world is facing a global energy crisis, and our allies in Asia and Europe desperately need Canadian LNG,” said Lorne Doerkson. “British Columbia could have been there for them. We have the resources, the workers and the know-how. But for the last ten years, David Eby and the NDP refused to build. That changes with me.”
This ambitious and serious plan will make British Columbia the most attractive place in the world to invest in LNG. We will cut the red tape that has driven investment away, and deliver faster, more certain approvals so good projects get built on time. The plan will unlock the power and infrastructure the sector needs to grow, build a competitive and stable royalty framework, and bring back the companies that left BC under the NDP. It will also put First Nations at the centre of this opportunity, with expanded ownership and true partnership.
Under the NDP, British Columbia has fallen far short of its potential. At one point, 18 LNG projects were proposed in this province. Nearly all ran into the brick wall of the NDP, and companies were forced to abandon their plans. Today, BC’s development has stalled at around 20 million tonnes per annum, while the United States exports six times that, more than 120 million tonnes a year, and Qatar exports between 70 and 80 million tonnes. That is what could have been here too. The NDP has left our province poorer, weaker and more vulnerable to Donald Trump’s bullying.
“British Columbia has the rule of law, is a stable democracy, one of the richest gas basins on Earth and the closest North American ports to Asia. The world is looking for exactly this. The question is whether we will build it,” said Doerkson. “We have everything we need to become an energy superpower. My BC Energy Superpower Plan will deliver strong leadership for serious times.”
