QUESNEL, B.C.: Archie Chantyman has spent years giving back to his community and bringing people together across the Cariboo.

On September 12, the Lhoosk’uz Dene elder from Quesnel will receive the B.C. Medal of Good Citizenship.

Each year, Archie takes on his “March with Arch” journey, walking over 700 kilometres from Kluskus to the site of the former St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School in Williams Lake and back. Archie’s annual journey is a “pilgrimage to let go of pain and suffering through unity and forgiveness.”

Archie also regularly shares his experiences at community events, encourages people to learn from the past and works to bring people together across the Cariboo.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Archie Chantyman on this well-deserved award,” said Sheldon Clare, MLA for Prince George-North Cariboo, who nominated Archie for the Medal of Good Citizenship. “Archie’s dedication to his community and bringing people together is an inspiration. He embodies the humility, perseverance and leadership this medal was created to honour.”

Hon. Kerry-Lynne Findlay, Leader of the Conservative Party of B.C. said Archie’s dedication to his community and the example he sets for others deserve to be recognized.

“Archie’s journey has inspired people across the Cariboo and beyond. I am proud to join British Columbians in celebrating Archie and this well-deserved recognition,” said Findlay.
